Postgraduate Teaching 2025: Dr Véronique Hofman Leads Training on Tumoral and Non-Tumoral Mediastinal Pathology

On September 29–30, 2025, the French Society of Pathology (SFP) organized an online postgraduate teaching course focused on tumoral and non-tumoral mediastinal pathology. Over two days, this course brought together French-speaking pathologists to enhance the diagnosis and management of mediastinal diseases. The program was delivered by expert pathologists, members of the RYTHMIC network for thymic epithelial tumors, accredited by INCa.

A Program Dedicated to Mediastinal Pathologies

The mediastinum can host a variety of tumoral pathologies (thymomas, lymphomas, germ cell tumors) as well as non-tumoral lesions. Accurate diagnosis is essential to guide patients toward the most appropriate treatment.

The course offered a comprehensive program, including:

  • The 2021 WHO classification of thymic tumors and staging systems (Masaoka-Koga, pTNM, RYTHMIC network);
  • Key diagnostic criteria, including histopathological and immunohistochemical markers;
  • Practical management of biopsies and surgical specimens, with a focus on recommended immunohistochemical panels;
  • An interactive teaching approach combining clinical case presentations with theoretical lectures.

IHU RespirERA’s Expertise in Support of Education

By leading this course alongside Dr Lara Chalabreysse and Prof Thierry Molina, Dr Véronique Hofman helped disseminate up-to-date knowledge on mediastinal pathology to pathologists. She was joined by three other expert instructors: Prof Audrey Mansuet-Lupo, Dr Vincent Thomas De Montpreville, and Dr Nicolas Piton. Her role highlights not only her personal expertise but also IHU RespirERA’s commitment to knowledge sharing and continuing education.

Through the participation of its researchers and physicians, IHU RespirERA strengthens the connection between research, clinical practice, and education to improve understanding and treatment of respiratory and thoracic diseases. This EPU was an opportunity to showcase the institute’s expertise and its dedication to advancing patient care.
