Artificial intelligence and thoracic pathology: two days of discussions in Nice

On October 6–7, 2026, RespirERA Institute organised the international congress “AI in the Next World of Thoracic Pathology” at Le Saint Paul Hotel in Nice. Researchers and healthcare professionals discussed the applications of artificial intelligence, particularly in lung cancer.

Analysing tissue and biological data

The programme covered several applications of artificial intelligence (AI) to the study of thoracic diseases. These included the analysis of digital slides, digitised microscopy images of tissue, and the automated classification of lesions.

Biomarkers, biological characteristics that can provide information about a disease, and molecular data were also on the programme. These approaches were discussed as potential ways to improve diagnostic precision and tailor patient care, particularly in lung cancer.

Moving from research to clinical practice

The use of these tools in clinical practice was another theme of the congress. Discussions explored how AI could support healthcare professionals in making diagnostic and treatment decisions.

The meeting brought together pathologists, clinicians, researchers and AI specialists from different countries, giving them an opportunity to share their work and compare their approaches to these applications.

Thank you to the speakers, participants and sponsors

RespirERA Institute thanks the speakers and participants for their contributions over the two days, as well as the teams involved in organising the congress.

The Institute also thanks AstraZeneca, MSD, SOPHiA GENETICS, Thermo Fisher Scientific, Bristol Myers Squibb, 3IA Côte d’Azur and La Ligue contre le cancer Alpes-Maritimes for supporting this international meeting.
