Léa Berland's Thesis Defense on Immunotherapy

Léa Berland, PhD candidate at IRCAN – Research Institute on Cancer and Aging of Nice – CNRS UMR 7284 – INSERM U 1081 – Université Côte d’Azur, will defend her thesis entitled:

“Targeted Administration of Chemokines in the Tumor Microenvironment”

📅 Tuesday, September 2, 2025 at 3:00 pm
📍 Thesis Room, Faculty of Medicine, University Hospital of Nice

Supervised by Prof. Paul Hofman (IHU RespirERA, Université Côte d’Azur) and Dr. Mohammad Rashidian (Dana Farber Cancer Institute), this research is part of the field of immunotherapy, a therapeutic approach that is transforming the management of cancers resistant to conventional treatments.

Léa Berland’s work introduces an innovative strategy to reshape the immunosuppressive tumor microenvironment through the targeted delivery of chemokines. When combined with an immune checkpoint inhibitor (anti-CTLA-4), this approach demonstrated complete responses in aggressive cancer models, including triple-negative breast cancer, melanoma, and lung carcinoma.

The defense will take place before a jury composed of Professors Benjamin Besse (Institut Gustave Roussy), Eric Tartour (Université de Paris), Diane Damotte (Université de Paris), and Drs. Chloé Feral (Université de Nice) and Sandra Ortiz-Cuaran (Centre Léon Bérard, Lyon).
