Intégration de la biopsie liquide en laboratoire

CAMP PODS: Integration of Liquid Biopsy in the Pathology Laboratory

On June 25, 2025, Professor Paul Hofman, Director of IHU RespirERA, participated in the fourth session of CAMP PODS 2025 to present the integration of liquid biopsy into pathology laboratories.

Titled "Integration of On-Site Liquid Biopsy in the Pathology Laboratory – Challenges and Perspectives", the presentation explained how liquid biopsy, a cutting-edge technique that analyzes tumor fragments from a simple blood sample, can be implemented directly within the laboratory. This approach represents a significant advance in cancer diagnosis and monitoring, offering several key benefits:

  • Faster and less invasive diagnosis: Unlike traditional tissue biopsies, it does not require surgery or invasive procedures.

  • Real-time monitoring of tumor progression: Enables early detection of mutations or treatment resistance, allowing dynamic patient surveillance.

  • Personalized treatment adaptation: Results from liquid biopsies can guide therapeutic decisions, supporting precision medicine.

The session also highlighted the main challenges to implementing liquid biopsy and illustrated its practical applications in current oncology care, emphasizing the importance of combining technological innovation with reliable clinical practices to optimize patient follow-up.
