Giant lung installed in Nice to raise awareness of smoking and respiratory diseases.

Mois Sans Tabac 2026: RespirERA Institute Organises a Respiratory Health Event in Nice

11/04/2026

On Wednesday 4 November 2026, RespirERA Institute will welcome the public to the Promenade du Paillon in Nice for a free respiratory health event. Visitors will be able to access information, speak with healthcare professionals and, if eligible, receive guidance on respiratory disease screening.

A day dedicated to respiratory health

Following the initiative organised last year, IHU RespirERA is holding a new edition of its “Parcours Santé Respiratoire”, or Respiratory Health Pathway, as part of Mois Sans Tabac 2026.

The event will take place on Wednesday 4 November 2026 on the Promenade du Paillon, also known as the Coulée Verte, near the water mirror in Nice. Free and open to everyone, it will provide an opportunity to learn more about the effects of smoking on the lungs and ways to protect respiratory health.

Throughout the day, healthcare professionals will be available to answer questions and provide clear, accessible information about smoking, breathing and respiratory diseases.

An opportunity to speak with tobacco specialists

Visitors will be able to meet tobacco cessation specialists and discuss their tobacco use or plans to stop smoking.

Smokers, former smokers and their families will have the opportunity to learn more about the support available. The event also aims to encourage open and non-judgemental conversations about smoking.

The event is open to everyone. However, the breathing tests and screening referrals will depend on each visitor’s situation and the applicable eligibility criteria.

Breathing tests and referral for screening

Eligible smokers and former smokers will be offered a breathing test.

Depending on their profile, they may also be referred for lung cancer screening or screening for chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, commonly known as COPD. COPD is a chronic respiratory disease that causes persistent obstruction of airflow and can gradually make breathing more difficult.

The guidance provided during the event is intended to direct eligible people towards an appropriate screening pathway. It does not mean that all screening examinations will be carried out at the event itself.

The giant lung returns to Nice

The giant lung will also be installed on the Promenade du Paillon. This educational structure will help raise public awareness of the effects of smoking and the challenges associated with respiratory diseases.

Visitors of all ages will be able to explore key information about lung health through an engaging and accessible visual experience.

Through this public event, IHU RespirERA aims to make respiratory health information easier to access, encourage conversations with healthcare professionals and raise awareness of screening opportunities. Join us near the water mirror on 4 November 2026 to learn more about breathing, smoking and lung health.
