Pulmonary fibrosis: a day of discussion and shared experiences with patients in Nice

On 16 October 2026, patients, families, healthcare professionals and researchers gathered at the Le Galet lecture theatre at Pasteur 2 Hospital in Nice for a day dedicated to pulmonary fibrosis. The event was an opportunity to share knowledge, discuss everyday life with the disease and give patients’ perspectives a central place in the conversation.

Organised by the RespirERA Institute and Nice University Hospital (CHU de Nice), together with the Association Fibroses Pulmonaires France (AFPF) and with support from Boehringer Ingelheim, the day combined presentations, a round-table discussion and workshops. Research and care were discussed alongside the practical concerns of people living with pulmonary fibrosis and those close to them.

Sharing knowledge and discussing everyday life

The programme connected basic research, clinical research and patient support. It also introduced Nice University Hospital’s patient education programme for people with fibrotic lung diseases.

Everyday life was another focus, with topics including physical activity, nutrition, psychological support and the role of caregivers. These subjects brought the experiences of patients and their families into the discussion.

Workshops to continue the conversation

The afternoon offered themed workshops for patients, families and healthcare professionals. Staying active, discussing common misconceptions about food, talking about disease progression and supporting a loved one: these small-group sessions encouraged everyone to take part and share their experiences.

The association’s role was also part of the programme, with a round-table discussion devoted to the support it provides to patients.

A heartfelt thank you to everyone who took part

The RespirERA Institute warmly thanks the patients who took the time to attend. Their questions, experiences and the concerns they shared enriched the discussions. We also thank families and caregivers for their presence and contributions.

Our sincere thanks go to the AFPF, the teams at Nice University Hospital, the speakers, healthcare professionals, researchers and everyone involved in preparing and organising the event. We also thank Boehringer Ingelheim for its support.

To everyone who joined us, thank you for helping make this day a space for listening, sharing and dialogue.
